The Team Approach

Our hand’s-on team building classes focus on a team approach to creating a meal from scratch, and is a new and effective way to train, build or strengthen teams within your company.

This cutting edge training and team building activity approach, which is becoming sought after across the country, brings groups in from the standard management training woods and moon survival activities, right into the kitchen. Participants learn about group dynamics and about cooking in a fun and realistic way.

Real-Life  Benefits

The benefits of a TeamChefs Program are team building, leadership training, and in addition, participants work and play together in a rewarding environment.  Like in real life, their skills in resource management and completing objectives are put to the test in a new way. The team becomes much more aware of group dynamics, the benefits of cooperating, planning and communications.

As a ‘side’ benefit, your team also has fun outside of a workplace setting, puts their creativity and innovation to the test, discovers a sense of accomplishment and gets to enjoy a delicious meal as a reward..

Reasons to Have TeamChefs for your Company

  • Understand and improve the dynamics, communications, work methods and results of new or existing groups

How TeamChefs Works

There are several approaches, based on your objectives. The teams are given recipes, organize themselves, define their roles, cook and serve the meals. The teams are judged according to pre-set criteria, and there is a secret ingredient to use which helps to test creativity skills and how well teams follow the rules, or not.

The team that designs and prepares the most delicious and beautifully presented meal, and works best as a team, wins. Participants will be divided into groups, then be given 1 ½ to 2 hours to plan, cook, and garnish a meal that would serve all of the participants. For larger groups, all teams will have the same ingredients/recipes.

The Process

  • Before the team building program begins, we will obtain background information so we can customize the class for your group. Programs run from simple ice-breakers to designing a more complex program to test and enhance team skills.

  • After initial greetings and introductions, the group receives their ingredients, aprons and instructions.

  • Teams are randomly assigned, and select a team name.

  • The program begins with an introduction and orientation by  Chef Ted Kanterman, Chef and USPCA Premier Member and team instructor, and Chef Marybeth Gregg, French Culinary Institute Certification, and team instructor.

  • The instruction begins with an overview of some basic cooking techniques that will be used, knife skills and safety and sanitation in the kitchen.

  • Then the fun continues. Each team selects a head chef, if they desire, and works with their ingredients to complete their meals and objectives.

  • Each team will prep, cook, garnish, and set up their meals for judging.

  • Each recipe can be judged and awarded prizes (optional).

  • Everyone then enjoys the food and relaxes.

  • After eating, the group meets to discuss what they have learned and how to apply these concepts in their daily work lives.

  • There is a graduation ceremony where everyone receives a graduation gift.

Space Requirements: A room or space large enough for a table for each team to use portable stoves, or outdoor grills, chop up ingredients, cook and present their food. Tables, chairs and place settings will be needed for all participants. A clean up detail is also needed- usually provided by the hotel if applicable.
